The Syrians on the east and the Philistines on the west devour Israel with open mouth. For all this his anger has not turned away, and his hand is stretched out still.

At that time Rezin the king of Syria recovered Elath for Syria and drove the men of Judah from Elath, and the Edomites came to Elath, where they dwell to this day.

"I overthrew some of you, as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah, and you were as a brand[2] plucked out of the burning; yet you did not return to me," declares the LORD.

"I gave you cleanness of teeth in all your cities, and lack of bread in all your places, yet you did not return to me," declares the LORD.

so two or three cities would wander to another city to drink water, and would not be satisfied; yet you did not return to me," declares the LORD.

"I struck you with blight and mildew; your many gardens and your vineyards, your fig trees and your olive trees the locust devoured; yet you did not return to me," declares the LORD.

those who have turned back from following the LORD, who do not seek the LORD or inquire of him."

She listens to no voice; she accepts no correction. She does not trust in the LORD; she does not draw near to her God.

Then my anger will be kindled against them in that day, and I will forsake them and hide my face from them, and they will be devoured. And many evils and troubles will come upon them, so that they will say in that day, 'Have not these evils come upon us because our God is not among us?'
