Isaiah 7:2

When the house of David was told, "Syria is in league with[1] Ephraim," the heart of Ahaz[2] and the heart of his people shook as the trees of the forest shake before the wind.

Then Amaziah discharged the army that had come to him from Ephraim to go home again. And they became very angry with Judah and returned home in fierce anger.

Certain chiefs also of the men of Ephraim, Azariah the son of Johanan, Berechiah the son of Meshillemoth, Jehizkiah the son of Shallum, and Amasa the son of Hadlai, stood up against those who were coming from the war

In the LORD I take refuge; how can you say to my soul, "Flee like a bird to your mountain,

The wicked flee when no one pursues, but the righteous are bold as a lion.

The jealousy of Ephraim shall depart, and those who harass Judah shall be cut off; Ephraim shall not be jealous of Judah, and Judah shall not harass Ephraim.

And I will place on his shoulder the key of the house of David. He shall open, and none shall shut; and he shall shut, and none shall open.

while their inhabitants, shorn of strength, are dismayed and confounded, and have become like plants of the field and like tender grass, like grass on the housetops, blighted[3] before it is grown.

For I will defend this city to save it, for my own sake and for the sake of my servant David."

And though a tenth remain in it, it will be burned[6] again, like a terebinth or an oak, whose stump remains when it is felled." The holy seed[7] is its stump.

And he[7] said, "Hear then, O house of David! Is it too little for you to weary men, that you weary my God also?

The LORD will bring upon you and upon your people and upon your father's house such days as have not come since the day that Ephraim departed from Judah -- the king of Assyria."

Because Syria, with Ephraim and the son of Remaliah, has devised evil against you, saying,

"Do not call conspiracy all that this people calls conspiracy, and do not fear what they fear, nor be in dread.

and all the people will know, Ephraim and the inhabitants of Samaria, who say in pride and in arrogance of heart:

O house of David! Thus says the LORD: " 'Execute justice in the morning, and deliver from the hand of the oppressor him who has been robbed, lest my wrath go forth like fire, and burn with none to quench it, because of your evil deeds.' "

Ephraim feeds on the wind and pursues the east wind all day long; they multiply falsehood and violence; they make a covenant with Assyria, and oil is carried to Egypt.

When Herod the king heard this, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him;
