My soul clings to the dust; give me life according to your word!

It is good for me that I was afflicted, that I might learn your statutes.

I know, O LORD, that your rules are righteous, and that in faithfulness you have afflicted me.

O LORD, you have brought up my soul from Sheol; you restored me to life from among those who go down to the pit.[1]

Look away from me, that I may smile again, before I depart and am no more!"

You who have made me see many troubles and calamities will revive me again; from the depths of the earth you will bring me up again.

You meet him who joyfully works righteousness, those who remember you in your ways. Behold, you were angry, and we sinned; in our sins we have been a long time, and shall we be saved?[2]

But he answered, "It is written, " 'Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.' "

But when we are judged by the Lord, we are disciplined[8] so that we may not be condemned along with the world.

For this slight momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison,

And he humbled you and let you hunger and fed you with manna, which you did not know, nor did your fathers know, that he might make you know that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by every word[1] that comes from the mouth of the LORD.

Besides this, we have had earthly fathers who disciplined us and we respected them. Shall we not much more be subject to the Father of spirits and live?
