The money from the guilt offerings and the money from the sin offerings was not brought into the house of the LORD; it belonged to the priests.

He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not lift up his soul to what is false and does not swear deceitfully.

To you, O LORD, I lift up my soul.

The dogs have a mighty appetite; they never have enough. But they are shepherds who have no understanding; they have all turned to their own way, each to his own gain, one and all.

"Son of man, these men have taken their idols into their hearts, and set the stumbling block of their iniquity before their faces. Should I indeed let myself be consulted by them?

For any one of the house of Israel, or of the strangers who sojourn in Israel, who separates himself from me, taking his idols into his heart and putting the stumbling block of his iniquity before his face, and yet comes to a prophet to consult me through him, I the LORD will answer him myself.

You have plowed iniquity; you have reaped injustice; you have eaten the fruit of lies. Because you have trusted in your own way and in the multitude of your warriors,

Ephraim has said, "Ah, but I am rich; I have found wealth for myself; in all my labors they cannot find in me iniquity or sin."

Return, O Israel, to the LORD your God, for you have stumbled because of your iniquity.

The priest from among Aaron's sons, who is anointed to succeed him, shall offer it to the LORD as decreed forever. The whole of it shall be burned.

The priest who offers it for sin shall eat it. In a holy place it shall be eaten, in the court of the tent of meeting.

Its heads give judgment for a bribe; its priests teach for a price; its prophets practice divination for money; yet they lean on the LORD and say, "Is not the LORD in the midst of us? No disaster shall come upon us."

Oh that there were one among you who would shut the doors, that you might not kindle fire on my altar in vain! I have no pleasure in you, says the LORD of hosts, and I will not accept an offering from your hand.

For such persons do not serve our Lord Christ, but their own appetites,[5] and by smooth talk and flattery they deceive the hearts of the naive.

They must be silenced, since they are upsetting whole families by teaching for shameful gain what they ought not to teach.

And in their greed they will exploit you with false words. Their condemnation from long ago is not idle, and their destruction is not asleep.

Why then do you scorn[2] my sacrifices and my offerings that I commanded, and honor your sons above me by fattening yourselves on the choicest parts of every offering of my people Israel?'
