When he was about to enter Egypt, he said to Sarai his wife, "I know that you are a woman beautiful in appearance,

that I may make you swear by the LORD, the God of heaven and God of the earth, that you will not take a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I dwell,

Therefore do not give your daughters to their sons, neither take their daughters for your sons, and never seek their peace or prosperity, that you may be strong and eat the good of the land and leave it for an inheritance to your children forever.'

Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan[2] also came among them.

Judah has been faithless, and abomination has been committed in Israel and in Jerusalem. For Judah has profaned the sanctuary of the LORD, which he loves, and has married the daughter of a foreign god.

Did he not make them one, with a portion of the Spirit in their union?[6] And what was the one God[7] seeking?[8] Godly offspring. So guard yourselves[9] in your spirit, and let none of you be faithless to the wife of your youth.

A wife is bound to her husband as long as he lives. But if her husband dies, she is free to be married to whom she wishes, only in the Lord.

and I will be a father to you, and you shall be sons and daughters to me, says the Lord Almighty."

"You are the sons of the LORD your God. You shall not cut yourselves or make any baldness on your foreheads for the dead.

They have eyes full of adultery, insatiable for sin. They entice unsteady souls. They have hearts trained in greed. Accursed children!

For all that is in the world -- the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride in possessions -- is not from the Father but is from the world.
