Genesis 18:1

And the LORD appeared to him by the oaks[1] of Mamre, as he sat at the door of his tent in the heat of the day.

Then the LORD appeared to Abram and said, "To your offspring I will give this land." So he built there an altar to the LORD, who had appeared to him.

So Abram moved his tent and came and settled by the oaks[2] of Mamre, which are at Hebron, and there he built an altar to the LORD.

Then one who had escaped came and told Abram the Hebrew, who was living by the oaks[1] of Mamre the Amorite, brother of Eshcol and of Aner. These were allies of Abram.

After these things the word of the LORD came to Abram in a vision: "Fear not, Abram, I am your shield; your reward shall be very great."

When he had finished talking with him, God went up from Abraham.

So the men turned from there and went toward Sodom, but Abraham still stood before the LORD.

From there Abraham journeyed toward the territory of the Negeb and lived between Kadesh and Shur; and he sojourned in Gerar.

And the LORD appeared to him and said, "Do not go down to Egypt; dwell in the land of which I shall tell you.

And Jacob came to his father Isaac at Mamre, or Kiriath-arba (that is, Hebron), where Abraham and Isaac had sojourned.

And Jacob said to Joseph, "God Almighty[1] appeared to me at Luz in the land of Canaan and blessed me,

In that night God appeared to Solomon, and said to him, "Ask what I shall give you."

Then Moses answered, "But behold, they will not believe me or listen to my voice, for they will say, 'The LORD did not appear to you.' "

By faith he went to live in the land of promise, as in a foreign land, living in tents with Isaac and Jacob, heirs with him of the same promise.

Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.
