That they are like straw before the wind, and like chaff that the storm carries away?

I have been forgotten like one who is dead; I have become like a broken vessel.

The memory of the righteous is a blessing, but the name of the wicked will rot.

There is no remembrance of former things,[4] nor will there be any remembrance of later things[5] yet to be among those who come after.

For of the wise as of the fool there is no enduring remembrance, seeing that in the days to come all will have been long forgotten. How the wise dies just like the fool!

But there was found in it a poor, wise man, and he by his wisdom delivered the city. Yet no one remembered that poor man.

For the living know that they will die, but the dead know nothing, and they have no more reward, for the memory of them is forgotten.

The poor man died and was carried by the angels to Abraham's side.[6] The rich man also died and was buried,

and they set up false witnesses who said, "This man never ceases to speak words against this holy place and the law,

but my righteous one shall live by faith, and if he shrinks back, my soul has no pleasure in him."
