I made great works. I built houses and planted vineyards for myself.

who say, 'The time is not near[1] to build houses. This city is the cauldron, and we are the meat.'

Therefore because you trample on[2] the poor and you exact taxes of grain from him, you have built houses of hewn stone, but you shall not dwell in them; you have planted pleasant vineyards, but you shall not drink their wine.

"Is it a time for you yourselves to dwell in your paneled houses, while this house lies in ruins?

Likewise, just as it was in the days of Lot -- they were eating and drinking, buying and selling, planting and building,

Because you did not serve the LORD your God with joyfulness and gladness of heart, because of the abundance of all things,

For when I have brought them into the land flowing with milk and honey, which I swore to give to their fathers, and they have eaten and are full and grown fat, they will turn to other gods and serve them, and despise me and break my covenant.

"But Jeshurun grew fat, and kicked; you grew fat, stout, and sleek; then he forsook God who made him and scoffed at the Rock of his salvation.

"And when the LORD your God brings you into the land that he swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give you -- with great and good cities that you did not build,

and when your herds and flocks multiply and your silver and gold is multiplied and all that you have is multiplied,
