"If any case arises requiring decision between one kind of homicide and another, one kind of legal right and another, or one kind of assault and another, any case within your towns that is too difficult for you, then you shall arise and go up to the place that the LORD your God will choose.

"When an ox gores a man or a woman to death, the ox shall be stoned, and its flesh shall not be eaten, but the owner of the ox shall not be liable.

[2] "If a thief is found breaking in and is struck so that he dies, there shall be no bloodguilt for him,

If the thief is not found, the owner of the house shall come near to God to show whether or not he has put his hand to his neighbor's property.

In a dispute, they shall act as judges, and they shall judge it according to my judgments. They shall keep my laws and my statutes in all my appointed feasts, and they shall keep my Sabbaths holy.

"Thus says the LORD of hosts: Ask the priests about the law:

For the lips of a priest should guard knowledge, and people[4] should seek instruction from his mouth, for he is the messenger of the LORD of hosts.

then you shall select cities to be cities of refuge for you, that the manslayer who kills any person without intent may flee there.

"But if he struck him down with an iron object, so that he died, he is a murderer. The murderer shall be put to death.

You shall not be partial in judgment. You shall hear the small and the great alike. You shall not be intimidated by anyone, for the judgment is God's. And the case that is too hard for you, you shall bring to me, and I will hear it.'

then to the place that the LORD your God will choose, to make his name dwell there, there you shall bring all that I command you: your burnt offerings and your sacrifices, your tithes and the contribution that you present, and all your finest vow offerings that you vow to the LORD.

but at the place that the LORD will choose in one of your tribes, there you shall offer your burnt offerings, and there you shall do all that I am commanding you.

But you shall seek the place that the LORD your God will choose out of all your tribes to put his name and make his habitation[1] there. There you shall go,

then both parties to the dispute shall appear before the LORD, before the priests and the judges who are in office in those days.

"This is the provision for the manslayer, who by fleeing there may save his life. If anyone kills his neighbor unintentionally without having hated him in the past --

Then the priests, the sons of Levi, shall come forward, for the LORD your God has chosen them to minister to him and to bless in the name of the LORD, and by their word every dispute and every assault shall be settled.

"If there is a dispute between men and they come into court and the judges decide between them, acquitting the innocent and condemning the guilty,
