When it was day, the Jews made a plot and bound themselves by an oath neither to eat nor drink till they had killed Paul.

and plotted together in order to arrest Jesus by stealth and kill him.

Then he began to invoke a curse on himself and to swear, "I do not know the man." And immediately the rooster crowed.

And all the people answered, "His blood be on us and on our children!"

There were more than forty who made this conspiracy.

They went to the chief priests and elders and said, "We have strictly bound ourselves by an oath to taste no food till we have killed Paul.

But do not be persuaded by them, for more than forty of their men are lying in ambush for him, who have bound themselves by an oath neither to eat nor drink till they have killed him. And now they are ready, waiting for your consent."

And when it was disclosed to me that there would be a plot against the man, I sent him to you at once, ordering his accusers also to state before you what they have against him."

asking as a favor against Paul[1] that he summon him to Jerusalem -- because they were planning an ambush to kill him on the way.

When many days had passed, the Jews plotted to kill him,

but their plot became known to Saul. They were watching the gates day and night in order to kill him,

If anyone has no love for the Lord, let him be accursed. Our Lord, come![5]

on frequent journeys, in danger from rivers, danger from robbers, danger from my own people, danger from Gentiles, danger in the city, danger in the wilderness, danger at sea, danger from false brothers;

Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us -- for it is written, "Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree" --

by hindering us from speaking to the Gentiles that they might be saved -- so as always to fill up the measure of their sins. But God's wrath has come upon them at last![5]

But the people of Israel broke faith in regard to the devoted things, for Achan the son of Carmi, son of Zabdi, son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, took some of the devoted things. And the anger of the LORD burned against the people of Israel.

And he who is taken with the devoted things shall be burned with fire, he and all that he has, because he has transgressed the covenant of the LORD, and because he has done an outrageous thing in Israel.' "

And the men of Israel had been hard pressed that day, so Saul had laid an oath on the people, saying, "Cursed be the man who eats food until it is evening and I am avenged on my enemies." So none of the people had tasted food.
