Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the LORD, and he will repay him for his deed.

Jesus said to him, "If you would be perfect, go, sell what you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me."

And I tell you, make friends for yourselves by means of unrighteous wealth,[4] so that when it fails they may receive you into the eternal dwellings.

When Jesus heard this, he said to him, "One thing you still lack. Sell all that you have and distribute to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me."

And Zacchaeus stood and said to the Lord, "Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor. And if I have defrauded anyone of anything, I restore it fourfold."

So the disciples determined, everyone according to his ability, to send relief to the brothers[3] living in Judea.

There was not a needy person among them, for as many as were owners of lands or houses sold them and brought the proceeds of what was sold

and laid it at the apostles' feet, and it was distributed to each as any had need.

Now it is superfluous for me to write to you about the ministry for the saints,

As it is written, "He has distributed freely, he has given to the poor; his righteousness endures forever."

But if anyone has the world's goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God's love abide in him?
