About that time Herod the king laid violent hands on some who belonged to the church.

For the scepter of wickedness shall not rest on the land allotted to the righteous, lest the righteous stretch out their hands to do wrong.

At that time Herod the tetrarch heard about the fame of Jesus,

For Herod had seized John and bound him and put him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip's wife,[1]

But when Herod's birthday came, the daughter of Herodias danced before the company and pleased Herod,

"Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and put you to death, and you will be hated by all nations for my name's sake.

When I was with you day after day in the temple, you did not lay hands on me. But this is your hour, and the power of darkness."

Remember the word that I said to you: 'A servant is not greater than his master.' If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will also keep yours.

They will put you out of the synagogues. Indeed, the hour is coming when whoever kills you will think he is offering service to God.

And they did so, sending it to the elders by the hand of Barnabas and Saul.

He killed James the brother of John with the sword,

while you stretch out your hand to heal, and signs and wonders are performed through the name of your holy servant Jesus."

So the church throughout all Judea and Galilee and Samaria had peace and was being built up. And walking in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, it multiplied.
