Now these are the last words of David: The oracle of David, the son of Jesse, the oracle of the man who was raised on high, the anointed of the God of Jacob, the sweet psalmist of Israel:[1]

Then Jacob called his sons and said, "Gather yourselves together, that I may tell you what shall happen to you in days to come.

He made my feet like the feet of a deer and set me secure on the heights.

Great salvation he brings[10] to his king, and shows steadfast love to his anointed, to David and his offspring forever."

Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praise.

Now David was the son of an Ephrathite of Bethlehem in Judah, named Jesse, who had eight sons. In the days of Saul the man was already old and advanced in years.[3]
