Then Ahimaaz the son of Zadok said, "Let me run and carry news to the king that the LORD has delivered him from the hand of his enemies."

The king also said to Zadok the priest, "Are you not a seer?[5] Go back to the city in peace, with your two sons, Ahimaaz your son, and Jonathan the son of Abiathar.

Behold, their two sons are with them there, Ahimaaz, Zadok's son, and Jonathan, Abiathar's son, and by them you shall send to me everything you hear."

Now Jonathan and Ahimaaz were waiting at En-rogel. A female servant was to go and tell them, and they were to go and tell King David, for they were not to be seen entering the city.

And Joab said to him, "You are not to carry news today. You may carry news another day, but today you shall carry no news, because the king's son is dead."

"Come what may," he said, "I will run." So he said to him, "Run." Then Ahimaaz ran by the way of the plain, and outran the Cushite.

And behold, the Cushite came, and the Cushite said, "Good news for my lord the king! For the LORD has delivered you this day from the hand of all who rose up against you."

But you do see, for you note mischief and vexation, that you may take it into your hands; to you the helpless commits himself; you have been the helper of the fatherless.

to do justice to the fatherless and the oppressed, so that man who is of the earth may strike terror no more.

Arise, O LORD, in your anger; lift yourself up against the fury of my enemies; awake for me; you have appointed a judgment.

The LORD has made himself known; he has executed judgment; the wicked are snared in the work of their own hands. Higgaion.[3] Selah

For you have maintained my just cause; you have sat on the throne, giving righteous judgment.

One runner runs to meet another, and one messenger to meet another, to tell the king of Babylon that his city is taken on every side;

Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it[9] to the wrath of God, for it is written, "Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord."
