And the one who escapes from the sword of Hazael shall Jehu put to death, and the one who escapes from the sword of Jehu shall Elisha put to death.

But a certain man drew his bow at random[1] and struck the king of Israel between the scale armor and the breastplate. Therefore he said to the driver of his chariot, "Turn around and carry me out of the battle, for I am wounded."

And the battle continued that day, and the king was propped up in his chariot facing the Syrians, until at evening he died. And the blood of the wound flowed into the bottom of the chariot.

But they were exceedingly afraid and said, "Behold, the two kings could not stand before him. How then can we stand?"

Then in the morning, when he went out, he stood and said to all the people, "You are innocent. It was I who conspired against my master and killed him, but who struck down all these?

"Mark this, then, you who forget God, lest I tear you apart, and there be none to deliver!

No wisdom, no understanding, no counsel can avail against the LORD.

And if one asks him, 'What are these wounds on your back?'[2] he will say, 'The wounds I received in the house of my friends.'

While people are saying, "There is peace and security," then sudden destruction will come upon them as labor pains come upon a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.
