And as they journeyed, a terror from God fell upon the cities that were around them, so that they did not pursue the sons of Jacob.

Terrors frighten him on every side, and chase him at his heels.

For I was in terror of calamity from God, and I could not have faced his majesty.

For the arrows of the Almighty are in me; my spirit drinks their poison; the terrors of God are arrayed against me.

How they are destroyed in a moment, swept away utterly by terrors!

But you, you are to be feared! Who can stand before you when once your anger is roused?

Who considers the power of your anger, and your wrath according to the fear of you?

In that day the Egyptians will be like women, and tremble with fear before the hand that the LORD of hosts shakes over them.

The sinners in Zion are afraid; trembling has seized the godless: "Who among us can dwell with the consuming fire? Who among us can dwell with everlasting burnings?"

Who can stand before his indignation? Who can endure the heat of his anger? His wrath is poured out like fire, and the rocks are broken into pieces by him.

And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell.[6]

And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life."

But I will warn you whom to fear: fear him who, after he has killed, has authority to cast into hell.[1] Yes, I tell you, fear him!

He said to him, 'If they do not hear Moses and the Prophets, neither will they be convinced if someone should rise from the dead.' "

And after the meeting of the synagogue broke up, many Jews and devout converts to Judaism followed Paul and Barnabas, who, as they spoke with them, urged them to continue in the grace of God.

saying, "This man is persuading people to worship God contrary to the law."

And he reasoned in the synagogue every Sabbath, and tried to persuade Jews and Greeks.

And you see and hear that not only in Ephesus but in almost all of Asia this Paul has persuaded and turned away a great many people, saying that gods made with hands are not gods.

For the king knows about these things, and to him I speak boldly. For I am persuaded that none of these things has escaped his notice, for this has not been done in a corner.

When they had appointed a day for him, they came to him at his lodging in greater numbers. From morning till evening he expounded to them, testifying to the kingdom of God and trying to convince them about Jesus both from the Law of Moses and from the Prophets.

For we are not, like so many, peddlers of God's word, but as men of sincerity, as commissioned by God, in the sight of God we speak in Christ.

Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.

Working together with him, then, we appeal to you not to receive the grace of God in vain.

For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant[2] of Christ.

submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ.

It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

for our God is a consuming fire.

save others by snatching them out of the fire; to others show mercy with fear, hating even the garment[7] stained by the flesh.

And if anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.
