He said to his men, "The LORD forbid that I should do this thing to my lord, the LORD's anointed, to put out my hand against him, seeing he is the LORD's anointed."

David said to him, "How is it you were not afraid to put out your hand to destroy the LORD's anointed?"

But David's heart struck him after he had numbered the people. And David said to the LORD, "I have sinned greatly in what I have done. But now, O LORD, please take away the iniquity of your servant, for I have done very foolishly."

But Naboth said to Ahab, "The LORD forbid that I should give you the inheritance of my fathers."

So David persuaded his men with these words and did not permit them to attack Saul. And Saul rose up and left the cave and went on his way.
