Abner also spoke to Benjamin. And then Abner went to tell David at Hebron all that Israel and the whole house of Benjamin thought good to do.

And they said to one another, "Come, let us cast lots, that we may know on whose account this evil has come upon us." So they cast lots, and the lot fell on Jonah.

Of Benjamin he said, "The beloved of the LORD dwells in safety. The High God[8] surrounds him all day long, and dwells between his shoulders."

But today you have rejected your God, who saves you from all your calamities and your distresses, and you have said to him, 'Set a king over us.' Now therefore present yourselves before the LORD by your tribes and by your thousands."

He brought the tribe of Benjamin near by its clans, and the clan of the Matrites was taken by lot;[4] and Saul the son of Kish was taken by lot. But when they sought him, he could not be found.

And Saul said, "Come here, all you leaders of the people, and know and see how this sin has arisen today.

Therefore Saul said, "O LORD God of Israel, why[8] have you not answered your servant this day? If this guilt is in me or in Jonathan my son, O LORD, God of Israel, give Urim. But if this guilt is in your people Israel, give Thummim." And Jonathan and Saul were taken, but the people escaped.
