However, let each one of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.

Slaves,[1] obey your earthly masters[2] with fear and trembling, with a sincere heart, as you would Christ,

Only let your manner of life be worthy[7] of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of you that you are standing firm in one spirit, with one mind striving side by side for the faith of the gospel,

But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ,

Slaves,[6] obey in everything those who are your earthly masters,[7] not by way of eye-service, as people-pleasers, but with sincerity of heart, fearing the Lord.

Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.

but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct,

Keep your conduct among the Gentiles honorable, so that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day of visitation.

Likewise, wives, be subject to your own husbands, so that even if some do not obey the word, they may be won without a word by the conduct of their wives --

Do not let your adorning be external -- the braiding of hair, the wearing of gold, or the putting on of clothing --

Since all these things are thus to be dissolved, what sort of people ought you to be in lives of holiness and godliness,
