"You know that David my father could not build a house for the name of the LORD his God because of the warfare with which his enemies surrounded him, until the LORD put them under the soles of his feet.

Nevertheless, you shall not build the house, but your son who shall be born to you shall build the house for my name.'

But the word of the LORD came to me, saying, 'You have shed much blood and have waged great wars. You shall not build a house to my name, because you have shed so much blood before me on the earth.

Then King David rose to his feet and said: "Hear me, my brothers and my people. I had it in my heart to build a house of rest for the ark of the covenant of the LORD and for the footstool of our God, and I made preparations for building.

But God said to me, 'You may not build a house for my name, for you are a man of war and have shed blood.'

the food of his table, the seating of his officials, and the attendance of his servants, and their clothing, his cupbearers, and their clothing, and his burnt offerings that he offered at the house of the LORD, there was no more breath in her.

The LORD says to my Lord: "Sit at my right hand, until I make your enemies your footstool."

You have given him dominion over the works of your hands; you have put all things under his feet,

And you shall tread down the wicked, for they will be ashes under the soles of your feet, on the day when I act, says the LORD of hosts.

For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet.

And he put all things under his feet and gave him as head over all things to the church,

the deer, the gazelle, the roebuck, the wild goat, the ibex,[1] the antelope, and the mountain sheep.

And when they brought those kings out to Joshua, Joshua summoned all the men of Israel and said to the chiefs of the men of war who had gone with him, "Come near; put your feet on the necks of these kings." Then they came near and put their feet on their necks.
