He walked in all the way of Asa his father. He did not turn aside from it, doing what was right in the sight of the LORD. Yet the high places were not taken away, and the people still sacrificed and made offerings on the high places.

And Asa cried to the LORD his God, "O LORD, there is none like you to help, between the mighty and the weak. Help us, O LORD our God, for we rely on you, and in your name we have come against this multitude. O LORD, you are our God; let not man prevail against you."

But the high places were not taken out of Israel. Nevertheless, the heart of Asa was wholly true all his days.

As soon as Asa heard these words, the prophecy of Azariah the son of Oded, he took courage and put away the detestable idols from all the land of Judah and Benjamin and from the cities that he had taken in the hill country of Ephraim, and he repaired the altar of the LORD that was in front of the vestibule of the house of the LORD.[1]

I will not set before my eyes anything that is worthless. I hate the work of those who fall away; it shall not cling to me.

But those who turn aside to their crooked ways the LORD will lead away with evildoers! Peace be upon Israel!

Blessed is the man who makes the LORD his trust, who does not turn to the proud, to those who go astray after a lie!

They have turned aside quickly out of the way that I commanded them. They have made for themselves a golden calf and have worshiped it and sacrificed to it and said, 'These are your gods, O Israel, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt!' "

A wise son hears his father's instruction, but a scoffer does not listen to rebuke.

Do not swerve to the right or to the left; turn your foot away from evil.
