After many days the word of the LORD came to Elijah, in the third year, saying, "Go, show yourself to Ahab, and I will send rain upon the earth."

And Ahab called Obadiah, who was over the household. (Now Obadiah feared the LORD greatly,

Now therefore thus says the LORD, You shall not come down from the bed to which you have gone up, but you shall surely die.' " So Elijah went.

And there was a great famine in Samaria, as they besieged it, until a donkey's head was sold for eighty shekels of silver, and the fourth part of a kab[1] of dove's dung for five shekels of silver.

The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold[1] of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight, so that you may be justified in your words and blameless in your judgment.

All day long they injure my cause;[2] all their thoughts are against me for evil.

The wicked flee when no one pursues, but the righteous are bold as a lion.

"I, I am he who comforts you; who are you that you are afraid of man who dies, of the son of man who is made like grass,

If I go out into the field, behold, those pierced by the sword! And if I enter the city, behold, the diseases of famine! For both prophet and priest ply their trade through the land and have no knowledge.' "

And your strength shall be spent in vain, for your land shall not yield its increase, and the trees of the land shall not yield their fruit.

When I break your supply[2] of bread, ten women shall bake your bread in a single oven and shall dole out your bread again by weight, and you shall eat and not be satisfied.
