And he gave a sign the same day, saying, "This is the sign that the LORD has spoken: 'Behold, the altar shall be torn down, and the ashes that are on it shall be poured out.' "

So the Jews said to him, "What sign do you show us for doing these things?"

For Jews demand signs and Greeks seek wisdom,

And he said to him, "If now I have found favor in your eyes, then show me a sign that it is you who speaks with me.

And this that shall come upon your two sons, Hophni and Phinehas, shall be the sign to you: both of them shall die on the same day.
