But if anyone has the world's goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God's love abide in him?

Whoever is righteous has regard for the life of his beast, but the mercy of the wicked is cruel.

Whoever oppresses a poor man insults his Maker, but he who is generous to the needy honors him.

Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the LORD, and he will repay him for his deed.

Whoever closes his ear to the cry of the poor will himself call out and not be answered.

If one turns away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer is an abomination.

And he answered them, "Whoever has two tunics[2] is to share with him who has none, and whoever has food is to do likewise."

For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you by his poverty might become rich.

Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.

If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food,

and one of you says to them, "Go in peace, be warmed and filled," without giving them the things needed for the body, what good[2] is that?

If anyone says, "I love God," and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot[1] love God whom he has not seen.

Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God, and everyone who loves the Father loves whoever has been born of him.
