While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, "Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them."

But when the apostles Barnabas and Paul heard of it, they tore their garments and rushed out into the crowd, crying out,

But the people of the city were divided; some sided with the Jews and some with the apostles.

The following night the Lord stood by him and said, "Take courage, for as you have testified to the facts about me in Jerusalem, so you must testify also in Rome."

But the Lord said to him, "Go, for he is a chosen instrument of mine to carry my name before the Gentiles and kings and the children of Israel.

So Ananias departed and entered the house. And laying his hands on him he said, "Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus who appeared to you on the road by which you came has sent me so that you may regain your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit."

Now as he went on his way, he approached Damascus, and suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him.

And he said, "Who are you, Lord?" And he said, "I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting.

Paul, a servant[1] of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle, set apart for the gospel of God,

through whom we have received grace and apostleship to bring about the obedience of faith for the sake of his name among all the nations,

Now I am speaking to you Gentiles. Inasmuch then as I am an apostle to the Gentiles, I magnify my ministry

Paul, called by the will of God to be an apostle of Christ Jesus, and our brother Sosthenes,

I do not mean your conscience, but his. For why should my liberty be determined by someone else's conscience?

If I partake with thankfulness, why am I denounced because of that for which I give thanks?

If anyone is inclined to be contentious, we have no such practice, nor do the churches of God.

I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth.

For though I am free from all, I have made myself a servant to all, that I might win more of them.

Look at what is before your eyes. If anyone is confident that he is Christ's, let him remind himself that just as he is Christ's, so also are we.

I consider that I am not in the least inferior to these super-apostles.

Working together with him, then, we appeal to you not to receive the grace of God in vain.

Paul, an apostle -- not from men nor through man, but through Jesus Christ and God the Father, who raised him from the dead --

For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.

Nor did we seek glory from people, whether from you or from others, though we could have made demands as apostles of Christ.

For this I was appointed a preacher and an apostle (I am telling the truth, I am not lying), a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.
