Were you a slave[3] when called? Do not be concerned about it. But if you can gain your freedom, avail yourself of the opportunity.

And do not seek what you are to eat and what you are to drink, nor be worried.

"But watch yourselves lest your hearts be weighed down with dissipation and drunkenness and cares of this life, and that day come upon you suddenly like a trap.

For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body -- Jews or Greeks, slaves[4] or free -- and all were made to drink of one Spirit.

Each one should remain in the condition in which he was called.

For he who was called in the Lord as a slave is a freedman of the Lord. Likewise he who was free when called is a slave of Christ.

There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave[6] nor free, there is neither male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.

Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content.

do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.

Here there is not Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave,[5] free; but Christ is all, and in all.

Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, "I will never leave you nor forsake you."

casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.
