Unless the LORD builds the house, those who build it labor in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain.

Once God has spoken; twice have I heard this: that power belongs to God,

Those of low estate are but a breath; those of high estate are a delusion; in the balances they go up; they are together lighter than a breath.

Whoever brings blessing will be enriched, and one who waters will himself be watered.

For as the earth brings forth its sprouts, and as a garden causes what is sown in it to sprout up, so the Lord GOD will cause righteousness and praise to sprout up before all the nations.

When they heard these things they fell silent. And they glorified God, saying, "Then to the Gentiles also God has granted repentance that leads to life."

And when they arrived and gathered the church together, they declared all that God had done with them, and how he had opened a door of faith to the Gentiles.

One who heard us was a woman named Lydia, from the city of Thyatira, a seller of purple goods, who was a worshiper of God. The Lord opened her heart to pay attention to what was said by Paul.

Now a Jew named Apollos, a native of Alexandria, came to Ephesus. He was an eloquent man, competent in the Scriptures.

And it happened that while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul passed through the inland[1] country and came to Ephesus. There he found some disciples.

After greeting them, he related one by one the things that God had done among the Gentiles through his ministry.

For I will not venture to speak of anything except what Christ has accomplished through me to bring the Gentiles to obedience -- by word and deed,

What I mean is that each one of you says, "I follow Paul," or "I follow Apollos," or "I follow Cephas," or "I follow Christ."

He is the source of your life in Christ Jesus, whom God made our wisdom and our righteousness and sanctification and redemption.

whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas or the world or life or death or the present or the future -- all are yours,

So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth.

Am I not free? Am I not an apostle? Have I not seen Jesus our Lord? Are not you my workmanship in the Lord?

so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith -- that you, being rooted and grounded in love,

because our gospel came to you not only in word, but also in power and in the Holy Spirit and with full conviction. You know what kind of men we proved to be among you for your sake.
