Thus, saith Yahweh—A voice, in Ramah, is heard, Wailing, bitter weeping, Rachel weeping for her children,—She refuseth to be comforted for her children, For they are not!

For a voice as of a woman in pangs, have I heard Anguish as of her that is bearing her firstborn. The voice of the daughter of Zion! She gaspeth for breath, She spreadeth forth her palms,—Surely woe to me! For my soul fainteth before murderers.

Then was fulfilled, that which was spoken through Jeremiah the prophet, saying:

And they were all weeping, and beating themselves, for her. And he said—Be not weeping; for she died not, but is sleeping.
