And Nahash the Ammonite said unto them, Hereby, will I solemnise a covenant with you by digging out for you, every one’s right eye,—and laying it for a reproach, upon all Israel.
Then spake David unto the men that were standing by him, saying, What shall be done to the man that shall smite yonder Philistine, and so shall take away reproach from off Israel? For who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he hath reproached the ranks of a Living God?

But, when ye saw that, Nahash king of the sons of Ammon, came upon you, then said ye unto me, Nay! but, a king, shall reign over us, when, Yahweh your God, was your king!
