Behold, happy is the man whom God correcteth: Therefore despise not thou the chastening of the Almighty.

If thou set thine heart aright, And stretch out thine hands toward him;

Are the consolations of God too small for thee, And the word that dealeth gently with thee?

He delivereth the afflicted by his affliction, And openeth their ear in oppression.

Yea, he would have led thee away out of distress Into a broad place, where there is no straitness; And that which is set on thy table should be full of fatness.

If thou wouldest seek diligently unto God, And make thy supplication to the Almighty;

The LORD hath chastened me sore: But he hath not given me over unto death.

Blessed is the man whom thou chastenest, O LORD, And teachest out of thy law;

I have surely heard Ephraim bemoaning himself thus, Thou hast chastised me, and I was chastised, as a calf unaccustomed to the yoke: turn thou me, and I shall be turned; for thou art the LORD my God.

And thou shalt consider in thine heart, that, as a man chasteneth his son, so the LORD thy God chasteneth thee.

Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he hath been approved, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord promised to them that love him.

Behold, we call them blessed which endured: ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord, how that the Lord is full of pity, and merciful.

As many as I love, I reprove and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.
