And the men of Israel answered the men of Judah, and said, We have ten parts in the king; and we have also more right in David than ye: why then did ye despise us, that our advice should not be first had in bringing back our king? And the words of the men of Judah were fiercer than the words of the men of Israel.

And they spake unto him, saying, If thou wilt be a servant unto this people this day, and wilt serve them, and answer them, and speak good words to them, then they will be thy servants for ever.

And they spake unto him, saying, If thou be kind to this people, and please them, and speak good words to them, then they will be thy servants forever.

Will he make many supplications unto thee? Or will he speak soft words unto thee?

Hatred stirreth up strifes: But love covereth all transgressions.

A wrathful man stirreth up contention: But he that is slow to anger appeaseth strife.

By long forbearing is a ruler persuaded, And a soft tongue breaketh the bone.

He that is of a greedy spirit stirreth up strife: But he that putteth his trust in the LORD shall be made fat.

An angry man stirreth up strife, And a wrathful man aboundeth in transgression.

Scornful men set a city in a flame: But wise men turn away wrath.

And when he had thus spoken, he dismissed the assembly.
