What is man, that he should be clean? And he which is born of a woman, that he should be righteous?

And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; And to depart from evil is understanding.

He taketh the wise in their own craftiness: And the counsel of the froward is carried headlong.

Doth the wild ass bray when he hath grass? Or loweth the ox over his fodder?

Man is like to vanity: His days are as a shadow that passeth away.

When thou with rebukes dost correct man for iniquity, Thou makest his beauty to consume away like a moth: Surely every man is vanity. Selah

Behold, thou hast made my days as handbreadths; And mine age is as nothing before thee: Surely every man at his best estate is altogether vanity. Selah

Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; And in sin did my mother conceive me.

So brutish was I, and ignorant; I was as a beast before thee.

A brutish man knoweth not; Neither doth a fool understand this:

Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher; vanity of vanities, all is vanity.

Therefore remove sorrow from thy heart, and put away evil from thy flesh: for youth and the prime of life are vanity.

I said in mine heart, It is because of the sons of men, that God may prove them, and that they may see that they themselves are but as beasts.

a wild ass used to the wilderness, that snuffeth up the wind in her desire; in her occasion who can turn her away? all they that seek her will not weary themselves; in her month they shall find her.

Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,

Be of the same mind one toward another. Set not your mind on high things, but condescend to things that are lowly. Be not wise in your own conceits.

among whom we also all once lived in the lusts of our flesh, doing the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest:--

But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith apart from works is barren?
