Thou hast indeed smitten Edom, and thine heart hath lifted thee up: glory thereof, and abide at home; for why shouldest thou meddle to thy hurt, that thou shouldest fall, even thou, and Judah with thee?

Lo, this is the man that made not God his strength; But trusted in the abundance of his riches, And strengthened himself in his wickedness.

Trust not in oppression, And become not vain in robbery: If riches increase, set not your heart thereon.

God hath spoken once, Twice have I heard this; That power belongeth unto God:

He that trusteth in his riches shall fall: But the righteous shall flourish as the green leaf.

Seest thou a man wise in his own conceit? There is more hope of a fool than of him.

Lest I be full, and deny thee, and say, Who is the LORD? Or lest I be poor, and steal, And use profanely the name of my God.

And on great waters the seed of Shihor, the harvest of the Nile, was her revenue; and she was the mart of nations.

Who hath purposed this against Tyre, the crowning city, whose merchants are princes, whose traffickers are the honourable of the earth?

Woe unto them that are wise their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!

Wherefore gloriest thou in the valleys, thy flowing valley, O backsliding daughter? that trusted in her treasures, saying, Who shall come unto me?

Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom; pride, fulness of bread, and prosperous ease was in her and in her daughters; neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy.

Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness: I have cast thee to the ground, I have laid thee before kings, that they may behold thee.

Son of man, say unto the prince of Tyre, Thus saith the Lord GOD Because thine heart is lifted up, and thou hast said, I am a god, I sit in the seat of God, in the midst of the seas; yet thou art man, and not God, though thou didst set thine heart as the heart of God:

And the multitude shall be lifted up, and his heart shall be exalted: and he shall cast down tens of thousands, but he shall not prevail.

The king spake and said, Is not this great Babylon, which I have built for the royal dwelling place, by the might of my power and for the glory of my majesty?

Now I Nebuchadnezzar praise and extol and honour the King of heaven; for all his works are truth, and his ways judgement: and those that walk in pride he is able to abase.

According to their pasture, so were they filled; they were filled, and their heart was exalted: therefore have they forgotten me.

And Tyre did build herself a strong hold, and heaped up silver as the dust, and fine gold as the mire of the streets.

Be of the same mind one toward another. Set not your mind on high things, but condescend to things that are lowly. Be not wise in your own conceits.

and thou say in thine heart, My power and the might of mine hand hath gotten me this wealth.

Charge them that are rich in this present world, that they be not highminded, nor have their hope set on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy;
