“He has made me a byword of the peoples, and I am one before whom men spit.

A senseless, a disreputable brood, they have been whipped out of the land.

Thou hast made us a byword among the nations, a laughingstock among the peoples.

O Lord, thou hast deceived me, and I was deceived; thou art stronger than I, and thou hast prevailed. I have become a laughingstock all the day; every one mocks me.

I have become the laughingstock of all peoples, the burden of their songs all day long.

“All our enemies rail against us;

Behold their sitting and their rising; I am the burden of their songs.
