And they come to you as people come, and they sit before you as my people, and they hear what you say but they will not do it; for with their lips they show much love, but their heart is set on their gain.

Now because we eat the salt of the palace and it is not fitting for us to witness the king's dishonor, therefore we send and inform the king,

He sees many things, but does not observe them; his ears are open, but he does not hear.

Thou plantest them, and they take root; they grow and bring forth fruit; thou art near in their mouth and far from their heart.

And I have this day declared it to you, but you have not obeyed the voice of the Lord your God in anything that he sent me to tell you.

“As for the word which you have spoken to us in the name of the Lord, we will not listen to you.

Then came certain of the elders of Israel to me, and sat before me.

“Behold, therefore, I strike my hands together at the dishonest gain which you have made, and at the blood which has been in the midst of you.

Her princes in the midst of her are like wolves tearing the prey, shedding blood, destroying lives to get dishonest gain.

In the sixth year, in the sixth month, on the fifth day of the month, as I sat in my house, with the elders of Judah sitting before me, the hand of the Lord God fell there upon me.

As for what was sown among thorns, this is he who hears the word, but the cares of the world and the delight in riches choke the word, and it proves unfruitful.

When the young man heard this he went away sorrowful; for he had great possessions.

“No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.

And she had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet and listened to his teaching.

But he said, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and keep it!”

The Pharisees, who were lovers of money, heard all this, and they scoffed at him.

But he said to them, “My mother and my brothers are those who hear the word of God and do it.”

So I sent to you at once, and you have been kind enough to come. Now therefore we are all here present in the sight of God, to hear all that you have been commanded by the Lord.”

Be sure of this, that no fornicator or impure man, or one who is covetous (that is, an idolater), has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.
