Throughout all their journeys, whenever the cloud was taken up from over the tabernacle, the people of Israel would go onward;

thou in thy great mercies didst not forsake them in the wilderness; the pillar of cloud which led them in the way did not depart from them by day, nor the pillar of fire by night which lighted for them the way by which they should go.

He spread a cloud for a covering, and fire to give light by night.

In the daytime he led them with a cloud, and all the night with a fiery light.

And whenever the cloud was taken up from over the tent, after that the people of Israel set out; and in the place where the cloud settled down, there the people of Israel encamped.

Whether it was two days, or a month, or a longer time, that the cloud continued over the tabernacle, abiding there, the people of Israel remained in camp and did not set out; but when it was taken up they set out.

I want you to know, brethren, that our fathers were all under the cloud, and all passed through the sea,
