Now Joab the son of Zeruiah perceived that the king's heart went out to Absalom.

And the spirit of the king longed to go forth to Absalom; for he was comforted about Amnon, seeing he was dead.

And Joab sent to Tekoa, and fetched from there a wise woman, and said to her, “Pretend to be a mourner, and put on mourning garments; do not anoint yourself with oil, but behave like a woman who has been mourning many days for the dead;

And the king was deeply moved, and went up to the chamber over the gate, and wept; and as he went, he said, “O my son Absalom, my son, my son Absalom! Would I had died instead of you, O Absalom, my son, my son!”

So the victory that day was turned into mourning for all the people; for the people heard that day, “The king is grieving for his son.”

The king covered his face, and the king cried with a loud voice, “O my son Absalom, O Absalom, my son, my son!”

And the three sons of Zeruiah were there, Joab, Abishai, and Asahel. Now Asahel was as swift of foot as a wild gazelle;

and their sisters were Zeruiah and Abigail. The sons of Zeruiah: Abishai, Joab, and Asahel, three.

Many seek the favor of a ruler, but from the Lord a man gets justice.
