Tell me, you whom my soul loves, where you pasture your flock, where you make it lie down at noon; for why should I be like one who wanders beside the flocks of your companions?

“Thus says the Lord of hosts: In this place which is waste, without man or beast, and in all of its cities, there shall again be habitations of shepherds resting their flocks.

He will feed his flock like a shepherd, he will gather the lambs in his arms, he will carry them in his bosom, and gently lead those that are with young.

My soul yearns for thee in the night, my spirit within me earnestly seeks thee. For when thy judgments are in the earth, the inhabitants of the world learn righteousness.

Let me sing for my beloved a love song concerning his vineyard: My beloved had a vineyard on a very fertile hill.

O you who dwell in the gardens, my companions are listening for your voice; let me hear it.

As an apple tree among the trees of the wood, so is my beloved among young men. With great delight I sat in his shadow, and his fruit was sweet to my taste,

I love the Lord, because he has heard my voice and my supplications.

Give ear, O Shepherd of Israel, thou who leadest Joseph like a flock! Thou who art enthroned upon the cherubim, shine forth

I love thee, O Lord, my strength.

“I am seeking my brothers,” he said, “tell me, I pray you, where they are pasturing the flock.”

My beloved has gone down to his garden, to the beds of spices, to pasture his flock in the gardens, and to gather lilies.

And Ruth the Moabitess said, “Besides, he said to me, ‘You shall keep close by my servants, till they have finished all my harvest.’ ”
