I wait for thy salvation, O Lord.

Behold, he will slay me; I have no hope; yet I will defend my ways to his face.

He comes forth like a flower, and withers; he flees like a shadow, and continues not.

I hope for thy salvation, O Lord, and I do thy commandments.

My soul languishes for thy salvation; I hope in thy word.

But for thee, O Lord, do I wait; it is thou, O Lord my God, who wilt answer.

Their graves are their homes for ever, their dwelling places to all generations, though they named lands their own.

because sometimes a man who has toiled with wisdom and knowledge and skill must leave all to be enjoyed by a man who did not toil for it. This also is vanity and a great evil.

a person who has no one, either son or brother, yet there is no end to all his toil, and his eyes are never satisfied with riches, so that he never asks, “For whom am I toiling and depriving myself of pleasure?” This also is vanity and an unhappy business.

Now there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon, and this man was righteous and devout, looking for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him.
