I passed by the field of a sluggard, by the vineyard of a man without sense;

He who tills his land will have plenty of bread, but he who follows worthless pursuits has no sense.

As I have seen, those who plow iniquity and sow trouble reap the same.

On the lips of him who has understanding wisdom is found, but a rod is for the back of him who lacks sense.

He who commits adultery has no sense; he who does it destroys himself.

I have been young, and now am old; yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken or his children begging bread.

“I will show you, hear me; and what I have seen I will declare

Lo, this we have searched out; it is true. Hear, and know it for your good.”

In my vain life I have seen everything; there is a righteous man who perishes in his righteousness, and there is a wicked man who prolongs his life in his evil-doing.

The upright see it and are glad; and all wickedness stops its mouth.

Through sloth the roof sinks in, and through indolence the house leaks.

The soul of the sluggard craves, and gets nothing, while the soul of the diligent is richly supplied.
