That men may know wisdom and instruction, understand words of insight,
Say to wisdom, “You are my sister,” and call insight your intimate friend;
Why should a fool have a price in his hand to buy wisdom, when he has no mind?
O simple ones, learn prudence; O foolish men, pay attention.
To get wisdom is better than gold; to get understanding is to be chosen rather than silver.
Hear, O sons, a father's instruction, and be attentive, that you may gain insight;
The fear of the Lord is instruction in wisdom, and humility goes before honor.
Then you will understand righteousness and justice and equity, every good path;
Hear instruction and be wise, and do not neglect it.
Listen to advice and accept instruction, that you may gain wisdom for the future.
