And God met Balaam; and Balaam said to him, “I have prepared the seven altars, and I have offered upon each altar a bull and a ram.”
And God came to Balaam at night and said to him, “If the men have come to call you, rise, go with them; but only what I bid you, that shall you do.”
And God came to Balaam and said, “Who are these men with you?”
And Balaam said to Balak, “Build for me here seven altars, and provide for me here seven bulls and seven rams.”
And the Lord met Balaam, and put a word in his mouth, and said, “Return to Balak, and thus shall you speak.”
And Balaam said to Balak, “Stand beside your burnt offering, and I will go; perhaps the Lord will come to meet me; and whatever he shows me I will tell you.” And he went to a bare height.
And the Lord put a word in Balaam's mouth, and said, “Return to Balak, and thus you shall speak.”
saying, ‘These last worked only one hour, and you have made them equal to us who have borne the burden of the day and the scorching heat.’
I fast twice a week, I give tithes of all that I get.’
They will put you out of the synagogues; indeed, the hour is coming when whoever kills you will think he is offering service to God.
Then what becomes of our boasting? It is excluded. On what principle? On the principle of works? No, but on the principle of faith.
not because of works, lest any man should boast.
