Then I said to them, “You see the trouble we are in, how Jerusalem lies in ruins with its gates burned. Come, let us build the wall of Jerusalem, that we may no longer suffer disgrace.”

For we are bondmen; yet our God has not forsaken us in our bondage, but has extended to us his steadfast love before the kings of Persia, to grant us some reviving to set up the house of our God, to repair its ruins, and to give us protection in Judea and Jerusalem.

The nations will fear the name of the Lord, and all the kings of the earth thy glory.

Thou hast made us the taunt of our neighbors, the derision and scorn of those about us.

Thou hast made us a byword among the nations, a laughingstock among the peoples.

Return sevenfold into the bosom of our neighbors the taunts with which they have taunted thee, O Lord!

We have become a taunt to our neighbors, mocked and derided by those round about us.

I will make them a horror to all the kingdoms of the earth, to be a reproach, a byword, a taunt, and a curse in all the places where I shall drive them.

The Lord has destroyed without mercy all the habitations of Jacob; in his wrath he has broken down the strongholds of the daughter of Judah; he has brought down to the ground in dishonor the kingdom and its rulers.

my eyes cause me grief at the fate of all the maidens of my city.

Moreover I will make you a desolation and an object of reproach among the nations round about you and in the sight of all that pass by.

A day for the building of your walls! In that day the boundary shall be far extended.

But Nahash the Ammonite said to them, “On this condition I will make a treaty with you, that I gouge out all your right eyes, and thus put disgrace upon all Israel.”
