“And in praying do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do; for they think that they will be heard for their many words.

For when dreams increase, empty words grow many: but do you fear God.

So, leaving them again, he went away and prayed for the third time, saying the same words.

For the Gentiles seek all these things; and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all.

But when they recognized that he was a Jew, for about two hours they all with one voice cried out, “Great is Artemis of the Ephesians!”

Again, for the second time, he went away and prayed, “My Father, if this cannot pass unless I drink it, thy will be done.”

And going a little farther he fell on his face and prayed, “My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as thou wilt.”

If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church; and if he refuses to listen even to the church, let him be to you as a Gentile and a tax collector.
