Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.

I speak as to sensible men; judge for yourselves what I say.

“For the kingdom of heaven is like a householder who went out early in the morning to hire laborers for his vineyard.

It is like a man going on a journey, when he leaves home and puts his servants in charge, each with his work, and commands the doorkeeper to be on the watch.

Or those eighteen upon whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them, do you think that they were worse offenders than all the others who dwelt in Jerusalem?

“Hear another parable. There was a householder who planted a vineyard, and set a hedge around it, and dug a wine press in it, and built a tower, and let it out to tenants, and went into another country.

He said, “Yes.” And when he came home, Jesus spoke to him first, saying, “What do you think, Simon? From whom do kings of the earth take toll or tribute? From their sons or from others?”

Tell us, then, what you think. Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?”

But he said to him, “I will not go; I will depart to my own land and to my kindred.”

So they answered Jesus, “We do not know.” And he said to them, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.

And he answered, ‘I will not’; but afterward he repented and went.
