The best of them is like a brier, the most upright of them a thorn hedge. The day of their watchmen, of their punishment, has come; now their confusion is at hand.

For the Lord God of hosts has a day of tumult and trampling and confusion in the valley of vision, a battering down of walls and a shouting to the mountains.

How they are destroyed in a moment, swept away utterly by terrors!

Now when John heard in prison about the deeds of the Christ, he sent word by his disciples

And they told him, “John the Baptist; and others say, Elijah; and others one of the prophets.”

At that very hour some Pharisees came, and said to him, “Get away from here, for Herod wants to kill you.”

And when he learned that he belonged to Herod's jurisdiction, he sent him over to Herod, who was himself in Jerusalem at that time.
