But the tax collector, standing far off, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me a sinner!’

And when they saw it they all murmured, “He has gone in to be the guest of a man who is a sinner.”

And the Pharisees and their scribes murmured against his disciples, saying, “Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?”

I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.”

One of the Pharisees asked him to eat with him, and he went into the Pharisee's house, and took his place at table.

So for the second time they called the man who had been blind, and said to him, “Give God the praise; we know that this man is a sinner.”

We know that God does not listen to sinners, but if any one is a worshiper of God and does his will, God listens to him.

But God shows his love for us in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us.

The saying is sure and worthy of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners. And I am the foremost of sinners;

understanding this, that the law is not laid down for the just but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers,

And “If the righteous man is scarcely saved, where will the impious and sinner appear?”
