And the men of Israel did as Joshua commanded, and took up twelve stones out of the midst of the Jordan, according to the number of the tribes of the people of Israel, as the Lord told Joshua; and they carried them over with them to the place where they lodged, and laid them down there.

And when the soles of the feet of the priests who bear the ark of the Lord, the Lord of all the earth, shall rest in the waters of the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan shall be stopped from flowing, and the waters coming down from above shall stand in one heap.”

He answered, “I tell you, if these were silent, the very stones would cry out.”

Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits,

The Lord is in his holy temple, the Lord's throne is in heaven; his eyes behold, his eyelids test, the children of men.

Then Samuel took a stone and set it up between Mizpah and Jeshanah, and called its name Ebenezer; for he said, “Hitherto the Lord has helped us.”

And Joshua said to all the people, “Behold, this stone shall be a witness against us; for it has heard all the words of the Lord which he spoke to us; therefore it shall be a witness against you, lest you deal falsely with your God.”

and this stone, which I have set up for a pillar, shall be God's house; and of all that thou givest me I will give the tenth to thee.”

Then Joshua called the twelve men from the people of Israel, whom he had appointed, a man from each tribe;
