And while they still disbelieved for joy, and wondered, he said to them, “Have you anything here to eat?”

When the Lord restored the fortunes of Zion, we were like those who dream.

In my distress I called upon the Lord; to my God I cried for help. From his temple he heard my voice, and my cry to him reached his ears.

I smiled on them when they had no confidence; and the light of my countenance they did not cast down.

And Gideon said to him, “Pray, sir, if the Lord is with us, why then has all this befallen us? And where are all his wonderful deeds which our fathers recounted to us, saying, ‘Did not the Lord bring us up from Egypt?’ But now the Lord has cast us off, and given us into the hand of Midian.”

Moses spoke thus to the people of Israel; but they did not listen to Moses, because of their broken spirit and their cruel bondage.

Though I am innocent, I cannot answer him; I must appeal for mercy to my accuser.

For he crushes me with a tempest, and multiplies my wounds without cause;

Then call, and I will answer; or let me speak, and do thou reply to me.
