She deals cruelly with her young, as if they were not hers; though her labor be in vain, yet she has no fear;
forgetting that a foot may crush them, and that the wild beast may trample them.
because God has made her forget wisdom, and given her no share in understanding.
The toil of a fool wearies him, so that he does not know the way to the city.
Look, O Lord, and see! With whom hast thou dealt thus? Should women eat their offspring, the children of their tender care? Should priest and prophet be slain in the sanctuary of the Lord?
Even the jackals give the breast and suckle their young, but the daughter of my people has become cruel, like the ostriches in the wilderness.
Behold, is it not from the Lord of hosts that peoples labor only for fire, and nations weary themselves for naught?
